On the 10th of December the winners and honourable mentions of the Design Management Europe Award 2010 were proudly presented. The award ceremony took place in an intimate setting in Lisbon’s Museum of Fashion and Design (MUDE). Amongst the speakers were the Portuguese minister of Economy Mr. Vieira da Silva, the director of the Portuguese Design Centre Henrique Cayatte, the director of MUDE Bárbara Coutinho and alderman of municipality Lisbon Catarina Vaz Pinto.
DME Secretary and presenter at the ceremony, Barbara Cruz (European Design Centre) stressed the importance of the award: “Most design awards focus on the designers or the product itself. The DME Award pays attention to the strategy and management behind the design. It gives recognition to the entire company and its management team. Recent studies show that only 10 percent of all companies across Europe use design. The DME Award winners belong to the top of that percentage. They not only show their will to use design, but they also stand out when it comes to management skills. The whole company is involved in the process and they look at design as a strategic and differentiating asset.’
